THE search is on for Junee Shire’s next community champions, with nominations now open for the 2027 Australia Day Awards.

Junee Shire Council is calling on residents to recognise the everyday heroes, dedicated volunteers, sporting stars and community groups whose contributions help make the Shire a better place to live.

From those who give up countless hours supporting local organisations and sporting clubs to individuals who quietly go above and beyond to help others, the annual awards celebrate the people who make a lasting difference across the community.

Nominations are now being accepted across five categories, with residents encouraged to put forward deserving individuals and groups who might otherwise go unrecognised.

The categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Team of the Year, Sports Award and Arts & Community Award.

The awards recognise achievements across a broad range of areas, including volunteering, community service, sport, arts and culture, as well as acts of generosity and dedication that strengthen the local community.

The annual honours have become an important opportunity to recognise the contributions of local residents, particularly those whose efforts often take place behind the scenes.

Whether it’s a long-serving volunteer, a dedicated sporting coach, a tireless community fundraiser or someone who consistently lends a helping hand, the awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge those who make a genuine difference.

Council is encouraging residents to consider the people in their own neighbourhoods, workplaces, sporting clubs and community organisations who deserve recognition for their contributions.

Nominations close at 4pm on Friday, November 27, 2026.

Residents can submit their nomination online or download and complete a nomination form through the Junee Shire Council website and return it to Council.

Nomination forms are also available in hard copy from the Junee Library, Junee Junction Recreation & Aquatic Centre and Junee Shire Council Chambers.

For further information, visit the Junee Shire Council website, contact Council on (02) 6924 8100 or email emma.hedlund@junee.nsw.gov.au.

The awards will form part of Junee Shire’s 2027 Australia Day celebrations.
