Kids accused of dangerous high-speed pursuit in stolen ute

TWO children have allegedly led police on a dangerous high-speed pursuit through Wagga in a stolen ute, reaching speeds of up to 150km/h before crashing and fleeing on foot.

Police say officers spotted a Ford utility allegedly being driven by a 14-year-old boy at high speed along Pearson Street about 10.45pm on Sunday, May 17.

The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a Wagga address earlier that afternoon.

A NSW Police spokesperson said officers attempted to stop the ute, however the young driver allegedly refused to pull over.

“The vehicle failed to stop for police and a pursuit was initiated,” the spokesperson said.

Police allege the 14-year-old behind the wheel accelerated during the pursuit, at one stage reaching speeds of about 150km/h, before crashing the vehicle on Ashmont Ave at Ashmont.

The driver and his 12-year-old passenger allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot before being arrested a short time later.

They were not injured in the crash.

The 14-year-old was charged with multiple offences, including take and drive conveyance, police pursuit – drive dangerously, exceed speed more than 45km/h and unlicensed driving.

He is due to appear before Wagga Children’s Court in July.

The 12-year-old passenger was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
